| "I
grew up on the outskirts of Brisbane, in open spaces that
provided ample scope for a fertile imagination. I have been
drawing since an early age and my earliest artistic aspiration
was cartooning. When the family got a home computer (C64)
in the early 80's it was another medium of colour and I taught
myself to program. The inspiration was to create my own computer
games.
When
I completed school I worked freelance in video productions,
creating graphics and animation. Some friends and I decided
to write a computer game, and we secured a contract with
Apogee. I was the artistic director and lead artist for
the project producing 2D and 3D graphics and animation.
I finally left the project rather disgruntled with the whole
computer industry, and decided to pursue my life long dream
and passion of being a fine artist.
I was
interested in the more traditional medium of oil painting.
I have always loved the bizarre and strange, and so Surrealism
caught my attention and helped to explore the psyche. Since
I begun painting surrealist oil paintings, I havent
looked back. To help support my artist "habit"
and promote my art, I reproduce my works as prints which
are sold at markets, festivals and on the street corner.
Surprisingly I sold most of my originals through the markets.
Computers
were never far away, and I needed access to them to manage
my own printing and image activities. I also apply my artistic
and programming skills to multimedia productions and am
now in the process of importing my artwork to this media.
The web is an accessible means of international promotion
of my artwork. Building my own site was also a good way
for me to learn web technology. Firstly I hope having a
website will raise my profile as an artist.
I am
still working towards that cross over of traditional
artwork and that of digital. The aim is to eventually make
an animated movie from my paintings, using computer software.
I am still painting surrealist oil paintings as often as
I may. My dream is to have all the time in the world do
my personal art every day."
